Every beautiful thing deserves a second chapter.

A row of deciduous trees in full autumn colour in the Southern Highlands, with foliage ranging from deep red and burnt orange to bright lime green and gold, set against a clear blue sky on a sunny day.

Our story

Oh! This Old Thing? started the way most good things do - with a shared love of beautiful objects, a house that was running out of shelf space, and the thought that maybe other people would love these pieces as much as we do.

We are Kylie and Jai, a husband-and-wife team based in Mittagong, in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. We source, photograph, research, list, and ship every single piece ourselves. No warehouse, no bulk suppliers - just two people with a keen eye and an unshakeable habit of turning every op shop visit into a treasure hunt.

She spots it. He researches it.

Kylie is the heart of Oh! This Old Thing? She is the one who finds a Royal Albert teacup hiding behind a stack of mismatched mugs, notices the way light catches a gilded rim on a forgotten serving platter, and cannot leave an op shop without checking one more shelf. She cleans every piece, styles and photographs it, runs our Instagram, packs each order, and gets it out the door. She is the creative force behind everything you see here.

Jai looks after the behind-the-scenes side of things. He is the one who will spend an evening tracing a pattern name back to a 1950s catalogue, working out which Staffordshire pottery produced that jug, or writing the listing copy. If there is a spreadsheet, a website setting, or an obscure backstamp to decode, that is his department.

Together, we make a good team. And we have a lot of fun doing it.

Made to last. Made to love.

Every piece we sell has already lived a life. A cake stand that held someone's wedding cake in 1962. A crystal vase that sat on a grandmother's mantelpiece for forty years. A teapot that warmed a kitchen through countless Sunday mornings.

These objects were crafted with a level of care and material quality that is genuinely hard to find in anything made today. We believe they deserve more than a back cupboard or a trip to landfill. They deserve to be used, admired, and passed on again.

That is what this shop is really about.

Chosen with care

We specialise in secondhand china, glassware, serving ware, and decorative pieces - the kinds of things that make a table feel special, a shelf feel considered, and a room feel like home.

Every item is hand-selected. We do not buy in bulk and we do not stock reproductions. Each piece is carefully cleaned, thoroughly photographed, and honestly described - including any signs of age or wear. Then it is wrapped with the kind of care you would expect if a friend were sending you something precious.

From our corner of the Highlands

Living here shapes everything we do. The pace is slower. The light is beautiful. The op shops are plentiful, and there is always a good excuse to stop for a coffee and a rummage on the way home.

Our garden is a constant work in progress - full of hydrangeas and roses that find their way into our product photography almost as often as they end up in vintage jugs on the kitchen bench. This part of the world has a long tradition of setting a beautiful table, of weekend markets and country fairs, of valuing well-made things. That sensibility runs right through the shop.

More than a shop

When you buy from Oh! This Old Thing?, you are not just buying a plate or a vase. You are buying something that was chosen with care, described with honesty, and sent with love.

We are here if you have questions, if you need help finding something specific, or if you just want to chat about the pattern on that teacup you inherited from your nan. We are glad you are here.
